As a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, one of the most common topics that I’m asked about is diabetes—specifically, type 2 diabetes. I receive tons of emails and requests for nutrition counseling and advice on how to manage type 2 diabetes. Besides monitoring your carbohydrate intake and eating a well-balanced diet, there’s another important nutrient that is very beneficial in helping to control blood sugars. That nutrient is protein!
One of the best ways to add extra protein to your diet, is to include

What is diabetes???
Diabetes is a disease that occurs when your blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high. This occurs when your body doesn’t make enough insulin or doesn’t use insulin properly. Over time, having too much glucose in your blood can cause health problems, such as type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes. This occurs when your body does not make or use insulin well. You can develop type 2 diabetes at any age, but this type of diabetes occurs most often in middle-aged adults.
